Suzanne's Visit to the United Nations

The reception was part of the 54th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women commemorating the 15th Anniversary of the Beijing World Conference on Women.  In attendance were Ambassador Rice and her staff, representatives from USAID, White House Liason for Women Tina Chen, global and regional NGOs, and antional women's groups.

      The Commission on the Status of Women participated in a fifteen-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly.  The Commission actively supports resolutions to eliminate violence against women was adopted by the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
