Play Therapist: Mental Health Practitioner/Professional

Primary Job Duties

MIWRC is seeking a dedicated individual to join the Mental Health Department to provide outpatient therapy to children. We are a growing program with current opportunities in school based therapy and outpatient therapy including providing diagnostic assessments, treatment planning and therapy to American Indian clients referred for various issues and needs. We are looking for an individual interested in working with children.

  • Conduct and properly document a diagnostic assessment for each individual admitted to the program. Update this assessment as necessary.

  • Develop and maintain individual treatment plans to address mental health needs and engage the family as appropriate.

  • Conduct mental health individual psychotherapy sessions as needed.

  • Provide mental health group therapy and psycho-education sessions as needed or assigned.

  • Participate in weekly clinical reviews, updating treatment plans as necessary.

  • Collaborate with other staff to provide appropriate supports and presence for individual treatment progress.

  • Maintain client records and keep client files current.

  • Follow all program, state and Federal guidelines for timely process and documentation.

  • Track and submit documentation of billable activity.

  • Keep current with evidence based practices, remaining mindful of a duty to provide culturally sensitive programming, and staying within acceptable utilization which is congruent with the program mission, policies, and procedures.

  • Provide crisis management and intervention when necessary.

  • Attend team meetings, and other meetings as assigned.

  • Stay current with correspondence and case coordination of services with outside resources.

  • Respond to other duties as assigned by the Clinical Director.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree and be licensed or license eligible (e.g. LGSW, LAMFT, LPC, LPP).

  • Knowledge and experience working with children and families.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of historical trauma, micro-aggression, and cultural diversity to the individual treatment plan and process.

  • Experience working with and understanding the effects of trauma.

  • Strong group facilitation skills.

  • Ability and willing to work with others to achieve goals for the higher good.

  • Computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft Word.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience providing professional mental health services.

  • Knowledge and understanding of one’s own tribal spirituality and cultural values helpful.

  • Advanced training in the area of trauma.

  • Experience working with youth and families.

  • Specialized training in Play Therapy.

Travel

Will be required to travel to meetings and trainings.

Physical Requirements

Job requires significant sitting at a desk, kneeling/sitting on floor, some standing, walking and various physical movement within play therapy.

Educational Requirements

Master’s Degree and be licensed or license eligible (e.g. LGSW, LAMFT, LPC, LPP).

Employment Requirements

  • Submit and qualify to DHS Criminal Background study.

  • Must have no current problem related to alcohol or drug use.

  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance.

SALARY RANGE: $25-$30/Hour
